The PPP (People for Proper Policing in North Wales)
The PPP (People for Proper Policing in North Wales) are a group of citizens from all walks of life, and political persuasions, who are concerned about the direction policing is going in North Wales.
From an initial meeting five years ago we have grown into a pressure group trying to influence strategy on several fronts.
- The PPP are perturbed the North Wales Police Precept (money you contribute to their operation) has increased by 150% in recent years, with no visible increase in service.
- We want to see a return to proactive, rather than reactive, policing. Prevention is better than detection!
- North Wales Police has the highest number of officers in its history, yet we see no evidence of them on our streets. We want to see a return to officers being visible and acting as a deterrent to all forms of crime and antisocial behaviour.
- We are disturbed that victims of crime frequently never see a police officer, and are simply given a crime number.
- The PPP has evidence that statistics issued by the hierarchy in North Wales Police are often massaged to justify policies, and frequently of dubious origins. This is very disturbing!
- We believe absolutely in road safety, but consider the current speed camera policy exists just to fund an ever-growing department within North Wales Police. It certainly does not reduce deaths, as this year, with two months to go until the end, last year’s death toll has been equalled.
- We wish to see lowered speed limits at certain times of the day in certain places, such as outside schools supported by Vehicle activated signs. We do not wish to see camera vans located where they will maximize revenue, but make no contribution to road safety.
- We wish to see patrol cars back on the roads, especially at night, deterring crime and bad behaviour and apprehending dangerous drivers.
- The PPP believes there should be a considerable emphasis on SAFE and CONSIDERATE driving, a policy totally absent at present.
- We consider it sad that scorn and humiliation is heaped on North Wales Police by the national Press, often precipitated by the actions of senior officers. This reflects unjustifiably on the hard-working and conscientious rank and file officers trying to do a difficult and demanding job.
